Here is some information from the National Autism Association site:
NAA is happy to be able to provide this vital safety toolkit for families as part of our continuing efforts to prevent wandering-related injuries and deaths in the autism community. The need for these resources is great, however they are costly to produce and ship and our funding is extremely limited. We are sincerely grateful to Autism Speaks, Talk About Curing Autism and Walden University for helping to make this grant cycle possible. To help NAA continue this program, we are asking you to please consider Paying it Forward by making an optional donation when requesting your Big Red Safety Box. A donation of only $8 will cover our shipping and handling costs to send you your free toolkit, and that savings will be put back into funding a future grant cycle. Please choose this option – if you are able – and help another family in need. Big Red Safety Box grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to all qualifying applicants while supplies last. You are not required to make a donation to receive one. To apply, you must be the primary caregiver of an individual with an autism diagnosis and agree to the terms and conditions stated in the application. Do not submit applications on behalf of others (friends, neighbors, students, etc.). Previous recipients are not eligible to apply. NAA will carefully review all applications to ensure that multiple requests are not processed and that these toolkits will be distributed only to families who have agreed to fully utilize these valuable resources to help keep their loved one safe. Limit: one box per family. Our grant inventory is limited. In order to provide these resources to as many families as possible, only one (1) safety box request per household will be processed. If you have more than one child with autism and need additional ID’s, wristbands, etc., they can be purchased separately in our Big Red Safety Shop. All printed materials can be downloaded for free at http://awaare.org.
